Crime....... Computer Crime

1. What is computer crime?
-------->  There are no precise, reliable statistics on the amount of computer crime and the economic loss to victims, partly because many of these crimes are apparently not detected by victims, many of these crimes are never reported to authorities, and partly because the losses are often difficult to calculate. Computer crime, or cybercrime, refers to any crime that involves a computer and a network. The computer may have been used in the commission of a crime, or it may be the target. Computer crime encompasses a broad range of potentially illegal activities, first crimes that target computer networks or devices directly; second crimes facilitated by computer networks or devices, the primary target of which is independent of the computer network or device.

 2. Give an example of a computer crime not stated in the Computer Ethics blog (http://cs192computerethics.blogspot.com/)
---------> Computer fraud describes a diverse class of electronic crimes that involve some form of electronic information theft and often monetary gains for the perpetrators. Common types of computer fraud include:
  • altering or falsifying corporate computer records for personal gains;
  • breaching a computer network (hacking) for sabotage or for obtaining sensitive information, such as passwords or data;
  • eavesdropping on phone lines or network connections via computer programs in order to glean sensitive information; and
  • offering bogus products or services over a public computer network such as the Internet.

3. What is stated in section 33a of Republic Act 8792
----------> It states that, hacking or crackling with refers to unauthorized access into or interference in a computer system/server or information and communication system; or any access in order to corrupt, alter, steal, or destroy using a computer or other similar information and communication devices, without the knowledge and consent of the owner of the computer or information and communications system, including the introduction of computer viruses and the like, resulting in the corruption, destruction, alteration, theft or loss of electronic data messages or electronic documents shall be punished by a minimum fine of One Hundred Thousand pesos (P 100,000.00) and a maximum commensurate to the damage incurred and a mandatory imprisonment of six (6) months to three (3) years.

midterm exam answers...

1.What are the ethical issues that seem to enslave this growing industry?
  • Today, human trafficking is primarily one of the issues that enslave women like prostitution, slavery, and exploitation. Human trafficking is the illegal trade in human beings for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation or forced labor.The following websites www.findsomeromance.com and  www.filipinaeyes.com are some sites that clearly up to sell local women to international men. What is acted by the person behind the websites is ideally human trafficking which is punishable by the law. It is so unethical issues for us because its human not an animal. Punishments or sanction must be imposed to those who violates the law to stop these unethical acts.
 2. Is there much of a difference between the mail order brides industry or companies that provide escort services versus meeting someone over the Internet in a chat room?

  •  For me, there is a difference between mail order bride industry or companies and meeting with over the internet chat room. In mail order bride, there is a dictator because you don't know who that person is, and women are exposed and endorsed with somebody . Womens are harassed because they follow what is being told to them while on the other hand, meeting over the internet chat room no one can dictates them what to do. There will be an exchanging of conversation ,from time to time it helps to know each other and sometimes it leads to marriage.

3. Does this industry differ much from arranged marriages that take place in some cultures?
Or in the case of "female escorts", does this differ from prostitution?

  • In this industry it doesn't differ much from arranged marriages , it is the same with mail order bride because it is a force marriage it doesn't have a consent with each other. It has a dictator between them. while in female escorts it doesn't differ from prostitution, escorts intention is also prostitution.

2. According to the definition of ethics, it can be connected to the norms or custom of the society. What could be ethical to one, could be unethical to another. If this is the case, in which ethics seem to be subjective in nature, why is there a need to study computer ethics at all? Support your opinion with facts.

  •     For me, there is a need to study computer ethics because according to the definition "what could be ethical to one, could be ethical to another. For example in distributing, copying other software it would lead to piracy of software. Studying computer ethics will remind us what is wrong or right. It will guide us to be professionals.

3. There are 4 types of non-jural law. Divine, natural, moral and physical. If you are to practice just one type of the non-jural law for the entire existence of your life, what would it be and why?
